The next Jazz Group meetings will be on the 22nd July and 26th August, in the Yarrow Room (Town Hall), at 2pm.
The Jazz Club has a relaxed atmosphere where members can get to know each other as friends. Some members are already knowledgeable about jazz and all are encouraged to share their enthusiasms.
Films or illustrated talks help people to hear and enjoy a wider range of music. In our monthly Tuesday afternoon meetings, a member presents the first half of the session, which might include a video or talk and recordings on a theme.
In 2020, we started a Desert Island Choices series for members to talk about the jazz music that had provided a soundtrack for their lives. In part two, members are encouraged to bring video or audio recordings related to a given theme and may talk about the piece they are playing. We have also invited jazz musicians to talk about and play their music.
There is a monthly e-newsletter telling people what to expect for the next meeting, alerting them to jazz events in the area and publicising ways of accessing broadcast jazz and sources of jazz online. In a normal year, our members go to jazz concerts, festivals, and gigs in pubs and clubs.
New members are welcome.
